Combine the ingredients in a sprayer and shake well. Whether you are killing mold on wooden struts, the floor or walls, spray the area thoroughly, then scrape the molds top layer off immediately using a cloth or brush. Spray the area simply enough to dampen it, wait ten minutes, and use a clean, fresh rag to wipe it down.

If you do use vinegar or baking soda, make sure you leave your preferred cleaner on the mold for several minutes before scrubbing it away to achieve best results.

Youll then want to apply vinegar on the affected drywall every few days for a couple months to make sure no spores decide they want to grow.

Tips For Preventing Mold On Walls

The most effective way to prevent mold and mildew from growing on your walls is to control moisture in your property. You can minimize the humidity within your home by using a dehumidifier and ensuring all rooms are well ventilated.

How To Remove Mold On Drywall Unpainted

Step 1: Protect surrounding areas

The first and foremost thing to do is to cover the flooring and other surrounding areas by using a plastic drop cloth. Make sure you tape the sheet into place to ensure your surfaces are properly protected.

Step 2: Mark the mold

Follow this up by marking the mold on the walls by using a pencil. Mark a square/rectangle around the mold making sure to leave some space between the visible mold and the pencil marks. This marked area also needs extend over two wooden wall beams that are behind the drywall. You will have to remove more wall than needed as this will ensure that you are removing the mold spores that are not visible to the naked eye. It will also enable you to replace that particular section of the drywall.

Step 3: Use a knife to cut the area

Use a jab saw for cutting the area by sawing piercing through the wall and sawing around the lines marked using the pencil.

It is important that before using the jab saw, you make sure there are no electrical wires, water pipes or other items that you may damage in the wall.

Step 4: Clean the room with a HEPA vacuum

Use a High-Efficiency Particulate Air vacuum to clean the entire room.

Step 5: Carefully evaluate Doors & Windows

Scrub With Baking Soda Or Borax

Sodium bicarbonate and the natural mineral borax each have a high pH that inhibits the growth and survival of mold. Both products are inexpensive and easy to use.

Make a paste of the powders with a few drops of water and apply it to the areas of mold growth. Let it sit for at least 30 minutes and then use a dampened scrub brush to scour the area. Rinse well with fresh water and dry with an old cloth.

Neither product is as effective at killing mold or removing stains as chlorine bleach or vinegar.
