The Best Way To Kill Mold And Bacteria
If you’ve got mold in your washer, here’s how to get rid of it:
1. Start by putting on gloves and grabbing an old towel that you don’t care about.
2.Mix a solution of either bleach and hot water OR vinegar and hot water. Never mix bleach and vinegar together, as it creates a chlorine gas that can be harmful to you.
3.Dip the towel in the mixture and start scrubbing away at any visible mold. Make sure to hit the detergent dispenser and around the gaskets.
4. If there’s a gasket around the door , carefully and thoroughly clean and dry it, including all the folds.
5.Run a wash cycle on the hottest setting your machine offers with a cup of bleach or vinegar. If using bleach, pour it in the compartment designated for bleach. If using vinegar, pour it in the detergent slot. If your machine has a self-clean cycle, you can use that setting. This should kill any hidden mold that you may have missed.
6. Next, use another old towel and wipe away all the moisture in your washing machine. This includes the drum, dispensers, seals and any other areas you can reach.
7. Lastly, leave the door to your washer open to allow air circulation to dry out any parts you missed. Doing this monthly will help prevent mold growth.

If You Have Mold In Your Washer
The first thing you should do is contact the manufacturer. A resolution will be difficult especially if youre out of warranty.
Some people have reported success with a product called Affresh High-Efficiency Washer Cleaner. LGs manager said to use it repeatedly until it hurts but that it may not work for everyone. Affresh has been the best solution for helping us manage the mold. It does work, but its not going to cure the problem, possibly because our issue is serious. Ive also tried Washer Magic with no success.
If there is mold in the gasket, you can also try replacing the gasket. Thats not going to solve the problem, though, unless youre diligent about maintenance. Ive read that once the mold appears, its hard to eliminate it, which has been my experience.

Tips To Stop Mold From Growing In The Front Load Washer Gasket
Remove your laundry
To avoid your gasket from being exposed to moisture for too long, remove your laundry after washing.
Use high-efficiency laundry detergent
Since suds indirectly cause mold, it would be helpful for you to use a laundry detergent that washes away with less water. This lessens the chance of leaving residue on your machine. Also, avoid using liquid fabric softeners because they tend to leave a residue.
Clean and disinfect the gasket regularly. Look at the manufacturers recommendation and follow how often you should clean your gasket.
Apart from the gasket, clean and disinfect your dispensers as well. Ensure that there is no residue in them.
When youre not using the washer, leave its door open. This helps maintain the humidity levels inside the machine and prevent mold growth. However, if you have children or pets, you may keep the washer door closed.

It is safe to combine bleach with bicarbonate of soda, provided you follow the normal safety procedures involved in handling bleach. Dont combine bleach with other chemicals though, as it can be dangerous.

You should allow the wash to run for several minutes and repeat the process if the odour and dirt persist.

Why Does Mold Build Up In Front
Front-loading washers typically use less water, so dirt, grime, and detergents do not always fully drain out. Using cold water versus hot can also exacerbate the problem. Hot water kills bacteria better than cold water does.
It is SO DIFFICULT to fully dry my LG front-loading washing machine after use, and it isnt practical to leave the door open due to its location in the house.
You also MUST use low sudsing HE detergents or cut back on regular detergents. Leftover suds are tough to drain and contribute to the mold problem, so fewer suds overall is better.

I Called Lg About Our Front
I did call LG to complain. The LG representative I spoke with was friendly and told me that the problem could be solved by using a bleach and water dilution on the washer gasket.
In my case, that didnt help so much. The mold quickly returned because there are too many small crevices for the mold to breed in. The water pooled up at the door of the front loading washing machine after each wash, too.
The representative also told me that this was a design flaw that has since been rectified in later washer models. But, there was nothing they can do because the washer was out of warranty.
My husband called again and was told the same thingwipe it down and use bleach. They denied mentioning the design flaw.
Doall Front Loaders Have Mold Problems
Pretty much. In fact, ALL washing machines can have mold problems. Front loaders get a bad rep because mold tends to grow out of control in that rubber gasket area. But there are plenty of other areas in washing machines where mold can grow. There are the trays where you put detergent and bleach. There is the top area of the basin just under the washing machine housing on the top loaders that can get mold growth. There is the basin itself. The door can get moldy. But that gasket area on a front loader is definitely the biggest culprit when it comes to mold growth.

Removing Black Mold From Washing Machine
To remove the mold effectively, you have to use a cleaner. The cleaner can either be homemade or bought from a store. Homemade cleaners are easy to prepare and we list some methods to create your own cleaner for removing mold.
Creating your own cleaner
You can mix hydrogen peroxide with water and lemon juice to create an effective homemade mold cleaner. Hydrogen peroxide and lemon have properties to fight against mold effectively. If you dont have hydrogen peroxide with you, then you can use white vinegar instead. Vinegar is a great alternative to hydrogen peroxide in combating mold. Bleach also does the trick in removing mold if you mix it in water and use it.
Using the cleaner
After preparing your own mold cleaner or a commercial clear, you can start using it on the mold. Make sure that you wear rubber gloves and a face mask to protect yourself from the dirt and mold of the washing machine. Then, add the cleaner to a spray bottle, so you can use the cleaner efficiently on the rubber seal.
After spraying the cleaner over the mold area, you can start rubbing it. You can use a cloth or towel to rub the mold out of the seal. In places where the mold concentration is high, apply the cleaner solution and leave it for few minutes. Then, use an old toothbrush and rub it hard to remove the tough-to-remove molds.
