Mold May Cause Allergic Reactions
Some people have a respiratory allergy to molds, and consuming moldy food might cause these people to have an allergic reaction.

Since mycotoxin formation cannot be completely prevented, the food industry has established methods of monitoring it. The levels of mycotoxins in foods are strictly regulated in about 100 countries .
While you are exposed to small amounts of these toxins through your diet, the levels do not exceed the safe limits. If you are a healthy individual, they probably wont harm you. Unfortunately, it is impossible to avoid exposure altogether.

How To Avoid Eating Mold
Preventing mold from forming can go a long way toward preserving your food supply and eliminating waste. This starts by storing fruits and vegetables in individual plastic bags in your produce drawer.
Keep food covered when serving to prevent exposure to mold spores in the air, and use plastic wrap to cover foods you want to stay moist to keep mold away.
Dont forget to always empty open cans of perishable foods into clean containers and refrigerate them right away. And never leave any perishables out of the refrigerator for more than two hours.

Do Eat Moldy Hard Cheese
Mice may not care if their cheese has mold on it, but you should. Firstly, this depends if your cheese is hard or soft. While soft cheeses with mold, just like soft dairy products, should be tossed if moldy, hard cheeses that were not made with mold but you’ll have to take an important step to assure safety.
If you notice mold on hard cheese, it can still be eaten so long as you cut off a moldy chunk at least one inch around the spores and below the mold, according to the USDA. But do make sure your knife doesn’t touch the mold, because you could spread it further. Also, you’ll have to use a new container to cover up the refreshed cheese. And if the hard cheese has more than just one spot and is dotted with green or white fuzzy spots, it’s best to just toss it.

That said, any other type of food must be discarded whenever mold is present, as the risk of getting sick from contaminated foodstuffs is higher and simply isn’t worth the risk to your health.
All told, it’s best to just not go out of your way to consume moldy food of any kind. However, if it does happen by accident, know that it’s not the worst thing in the world. Just remember to take a more careful look at your meal before you dig in next time.
