How To Get Rid Of Mold Fast

How To Remove And Prevent Condensation Mould

GET RID OF MOLD FAST! – Easy Everyday Solutions

Spotted some nasty organic ‘wall art’ around your windows or in your bathroom? It may well be condensation mould. This type of mould appears when moist air clashes with a surface with a lower temperature, leaving nowhere for the moisture to go. Maybe you’ve seen little droplets of water form by the window or in cold corners? These moist conditions make for an ideal breeding ground for mould, so you’ll want to get rid of the condensation and dry out the air as soon as possible.

To remove condensation mould:

  • First of all, wear a protective face mask, goggles, and gloves while doing this.

  • Try a bleach-based spray . You can also try a homemade spray made from one part white vinegar and one part water. Spray the product on the wall and let it work overnight.

  • Wash off the mould and the product with a damp cloth and use a dry cloth to remove the moisture.

  • To prevent condensation mould from returning:

    • Increase the ventilation in your home by opening a window. Take a look at your air vents to see if they’re blocked.

    • When you’re not letting fresh air in, turn up the thermostat a little.

    • Dry laundry outside as much as you can. If this isn’t possible, consider investing in a dehumidifier.

    Tips For Preventing Mold Growth

The best way to fight mold is to prevent it from growing in the first place. Keep your bathrooms, kitchen, basement, storage rooms and other areas of your home well ventilated. Humidity levels in your home should be no higher than 50 percent. Here are some things you can do to reduce the moisture and keep your home mold-free.

    • Fix leaky faucets, showers or household appliances that use water
    • Vent bathrooms, clothes dryers and other moisture-generating sources to the outside
    • Use air conditioners and de-humidifiers
    • Use exhaust fans whenever cooking, cleaning and bathing and run ventilation fans for at least 10 minutes after taking a shower or finishing cooking.
    • Fix leaks in your home’s roof or walls. Clean out gutters to prevent leaking.
    • Clean bathrooms and dry completely
    • Remove or replace carpets in rooms like bathrooms or basements that have a lot of moisture
    • Check windows for condensation and keep them clean and dry

    Get The Air Circulating

If your bathroom has a window, leave it open or cracked as often as you can to allow air to circulate through the space. Youll also want to use an exhaust fan to keep air moving and your bathroom dry when you shower or bathe.

Leave your ventilation fan on for at least 30 minutes after you shower or take a bath, too. If you dont have an exhaust fan in your restroom, consider getting one installed.

Power Tip: Make sure the clothes dryer vent terminates outside the crawl space.

How To Remove Mold From Shower Curtains

Shower curtains made from plastic or PEVA often stay damp for long periods of time and thus, mold loves to grow there.

Luckily, it is reasonably easy to get rid of:

Method 1: Baking Soda + Vinegar

  • Remove the shower curtain
  • Throw it into your washing machine along with some bath towels they stop it from crinkling and actually act like scrubbing sponges
  • Add 1/2 a cup of baking soda and your normal laundry detergent and start the cycle
  • When the washing machine gets to the rinse cycle, add 1/2 a cup of vinegar
  • Hang the curtain out on the line to dry
  • If you find that you still have some mold on your shower curtain, then you can try again. Because the curtain is made of plastic and blocks water, it may simply have been because the solution did not really get on to all parts of the curtain.

If you have tried this method a couple of times , then move on to the bleach method.

    Method 2: Bleach

  • Once again, put the curtain into your washing machine with some bath towels
  • Grab a bucket and mix up a solution of 1/2 cup of bleach and 1/4 cup of your normal laundry detergent
  • Fill the rest of the bucket with water but do NOT add it to the washing machine yet.
  • Start the wash cycle and once the washing machine has filled with water add your bleach solution
  • When the cycle is finished, hang the curtain out on the line
  • You may need to do this twice to make sure the curtain is fully clean.

    Option : Dishwashing Detergent

If the rubber seal on your washing machine is only slightly contaminated, dishwashing liquid may be the perfect solution for you. It is milder than many of the other variants and therefore does not attack the rubber. Thus, dishwashing liquid is suitable as a regular cleaning agent for the washing machine rubber.

How To Get Rid Of Mold On Walls

Many people first notice theyve got a mold problem when they see it growing on their walls. Check in the corners near the ceiling and floors in rooms with high moisture levels, such as kitchens, bathrooms, laundry rooms, and basements.

    Youll need:

    Scrubbing brush

    Method:

Step 1: Make a solution of one part bleach to three parts water in the spray bottle.

Step 2: Saturate the mold and surrounding area on the wall.

Step 3: Let the solution soak into the mold for 10-15 minutes.

Step 4: Using the scrubbing brush, remove the mold and stains.

Step 5: Repeat as necessary to remove all the traces of mold and mildew.

Step 6: Make a 50/50 mixture of white vinegar and hydrogen peroxide in the second spray bottle.

Step 7: Spray the cleaned surface and allow it to absorb and air dry.

This method works because it addresses the visible mold, as well as the underlying roots that often go untreated. Surprisingly, vinegar and hydrogen peroxide are both more effective at killing mold roots than bleach. Because they work best on different types of mold, try to use them together to cover all the possible varieties of mold you might be dealing with.

Pro Tip: If you dont have hydrogen peroxide at hand, you can also clean mold with vinegar and baking soda instead.

    Black Mold Removal Using Vinegar

How to Get Rid of Mold on Concrete Block Walls

White vinegar is a mildly acidic product that cleans, deodorizes, and disinfects. It can also kill 82% of mold species, including black mold, on porous and non-porous surfaces. You can use it safely on most surfaces, and its offensive odor goes away quickly.

Pour undiluted white vinegar into a spray bottle. Because white vinegar contains only about 20% acetic acid, adding water makes it less effective. Spray the vinegar onto the moldy surface and leave for an hour. Finally, wipe the area clean with water and allow the surface to dry. Any smell from the vinegar should clear within a few hours.

If your mold has gotten to the point that you need professional help, you need to brace yourself. This is not a cheap service, even if the area that its affected is pretty small. Most professional mold remediation jobs will cost between $500 to $6,000 or more depending on the size of the area and the depth of the infestation.
