How To Remove Moss From Canvas Awnings
Because your canvas awnings are constantly exposed to rain and other elements, they are more susceptible to moss invasions than many of the other materials you could choose between. If you have been neglecting your awnings of late, you might be relieved to find that it is possible to remove any moss growths that have developed and restore the canvas as much as possible.
Step 1: Sweep the outside of the awning to remove dust, twigs and any other debris that has accumulated. You may need to use a ladder to access those hard to reach areas up high.
Step 2: Apply some oxygen bleach to the surface of the awning, focusing on the spots where moss has taken hold. You can spread the bleach using either a chemical sprayer or a simple spray bottle.
Step 3: Take a scrubbing brush and use it to gently scrub the covering until all of the moss has been removed from the canvas. Rinse the area with the garden hose, starting at the top and working down.
Step 4: Apply some fabric sealant to the top of the newly cleaned canvas awning to help prevent further moss growth. You will also find that this will protect the area from further water damage and stains.
Step 5: Repeat each of the above steps on the inside of the awning to remove any moss growth that has developed there. Whilst it is not necessary to remove the covering, it may be helpful if its in a difficult spot.

The next step is easy. Mix 30 SECONDS Outdoor Cleaner according to the label. Saturate your fabric with the cleaner and rinse it, once it looks clean. Rinsing is key. You will want to ensure you rinse the material very well, and pay special attention to the stitching area. The cleaner can pool in the stitching grooves and could rot if left, over time.

One gallon of cleaning solution should be mixed with three gallons of water. Then, add 614 cups of mild liquid soap and 8 gallons of water. After soaking the awning for 15 minutes, wipe it clean with the cleaning solution. Soft-bristle brushes are best for cleaning the awning. Allow the awning to air dry after you have rinsed it.

How To Get Mold Off Canvas Awning
Make a solution with 1 cup bleach and 4 tbsp mild soap per gallon of clean water to clean mildew and stubborn stains. For 15 minutes, apply the fabric conditioner to the fabric and allow it to soak. Soft bristle brushes should be used to clean. Using plenty of water, rinse the soap residue off thoroughly. Awnings should be allowed to dry by air.

What Exactly Are These Growths
Our first update for this area is to clean the awning. However, before I started the dirty job of removing these delicate yet well-attached growths from the awning, I wanted to know more about the organism that was thriving there. After reviewing some university and federal parks-sourced articles about Lichen/Moss growth, I felt comfortable attempting to remove it.

How to clean sunbrella fabric mildew. A stronger percentage of bleach may be necessary for severe mildew. Rinse thoroughly until all soap residue is removed. 1 cup of bleach
Sunbrella fabrics do not promote mildew growth, however, mildew may grow on dirt and other foreign substances if not removed from the fabric. Prepare a solution of 1 cup of bleach and one fourth cup mild soap per gallon of clean water. Apply cornstarch as an absorbent, remove excess with a straight edge, clean up residual with dishwashing liquid and water.
This chart contains our recommended cleaning methods of sunbrella® fabric for common stains. Clean entire surface area with a sponge, clean towel or very soft bristle brush. Combine 1 cup bleach, ¼ cup mild soap and a gallon of lukewarm water in a bucket.
To do this, prepare a solution of 1 cup bleach and 1/4 cup of mild soap per gallon of water and soak the stained area for 15 minutes. Iosso Mold & Mildew Stain Remover
For this second step, we recommend using a mold and mildew removing cleaner like Iosso Mold & Mildew Stain Remover. Mix this concentrated powder with water to clean vinyl, canvas and sails plus plastic, wood, carpeting, fiberglass and painted surfaces. Free of bleach and chlorine, Mold & Mildew Stain Remover is safe on colorful fabrics as well as sewn seams, zippers, and hook and loop fasteners.
To use this Iosso cleaner, mix one scoop of powder for every quart of water. The mixture will turn blue at first. Stir until the color disappears. Wet down your fabric with water first, then apply the solution to the fabric using a sponge, soft brush or gentle sprayer. Let the mixture stand on the fabric for at least 15 minutes. Agitate the solution on the fabric with a soft bristled brush or sponge before rinsing with fresh water. Let dry completely outside in the sun.

Prepare For Mildew Cleaning
Canvas awnings are large and usually framed high, so you will need a full set of tools to clean them. You should note down and prepare the following equipments:
- A strong ladder
- A broom or a sweeper
- Some plastic cover
- Some clean cloths or rags
- Some brushes
- Some cleaning solution or soap liquid
We will start with the small awnings. You should remove smaller awnings from their arms and frames to clean them on the ground. You can apply some soap on them or soak them in soap-mixed water before washing them.
Now, scrub all dirt and mildew away. Dont forget to lay the awnings on flat ground while cleaning. You dont need any wrinkles on your awnings!
It would take you forever to move the large awnings and put them back after every cleaning. Leaving all big and heavy awnings in their places is a good idea in this case, and then dont forget to set up a ladder to reach them.

Six: Scrub With A Scrub Brush Or Broom
Standing on a ladder, use the scrub brush or broom to scrub the canvas. Do not be too hard on it but you should scrub hard enough to get the dirt and grime off. If there is any mold or mildew, you may have to scrub harder or use a bit more cleaning solution. Also, if any of the awning dries before you scrub it, soak it again in the cleaning solution before scrubbing it.
