If Necessary Sand The Wood
These cleaning solutions should take care of your mold problem, but if youve got some stubborn traces left under the surface, you have one last resort: sanding.
- Use 100-grit sandpaper to rub out the affected portion, taking care not to sand away too much of the surrounding areas.

Wall And Baseboard Mold Removal
Before treating the mold, use warm, soapy water to clean the affected nonporous surfaces. Rinse and let dry. Porous surfaces like drywall absorb mold and moisture when they get wet, making it very difficult to remediate mold. In almost every case, these surfaces must be completely removed and replaced. Baseboards can be washed clean, but if the mold is behind the baseboard, remove the baseboard carefully, clean and disinfect the wall behind it and then reuse or replace it.
While there are many commercial products available, the best mold remover for walls is a solution of 1/4 cup bleach in a gallon of water, according to Iowa State University Extension. For small jobs, add 1 tablespoon of bleach to 1 quart of water. Disinfecting the area with a bleach solution after cleaning with warm, soapy water ensures the removal of any remaining spores that would start growing and spreading, bringing you back to square one. Use a sprayer or sponge to apply the bleach.
Wear protective gear while cleaning and disinfecting surfaces. A face mask, ideally an N-95 respirator, goggles, rubber gloves and long sleeves and pants protects you from both the mold and the bleach. Wash the clothing immediately after youve finished the job to prevent spreading mold. Do not ever mix bleach and ammonia.
Check For Mold In Other Areas
If there is mold behind your baseboards, chances are that there will be mold in other areas of your home or business as well because spores will spread through the air. Mold moves and spreads by releasing spores. If these spores come across another habitable environment, one that is dark, damp, and humid, there is a good chance that they will form another colony. This creates a snowball effect because this new colony will eventually start to release spores and could potentially cause another colony to grow in another part of the property. To detect other colonies that may not be visible to the naked eye, we recommend hiring a mold testing and inspection professional or purchasing a mold testing kit.

Prepare Your Room And Clean The Walls
We recommend that before you clean or treat the wall with any product, you wear protective gear. Safety glasses, rubber gloves, and a mask will protect you from exposure to the mold. You should also ensure you open windows and doors while removing the mold.
Once youre ready to start removing the mold from the walls, clear the area. Remove any furniture, fabrics, and electrical equipment from the affected area. Cover the floor with plastic sheets for protection.
Use a damp sponge with dishwashing liquid and clean the affected area to remove any dirt.
Mold Goes Unnoticed Behind Baseboards
Time plays a key role in the forming of mold colonies. Because mold will grow in the rear of the baseboard, it will often be unnoticed for a long time.
Leaks from the outside wont always flood the house. In many instances, such as chronic window leaks, water can get in periodically, like during rainstorms. A catastrophic flood may be more devastating, but at least you can detect it in a timely matter and correct the issue as opposed to long-term leaks.

How Do I Get Rid Of Mold

How To Tell If Mold Is Growing On Your Baseboards

Its best to catch mold as it first starts growing, making it easier to get rid of and saves your baseboards.
One good way to detect mold is through your senses.
Mold carries a musty or earthy odor that you will smell before it ever shows up in your bathroom.
The feeling of eye or nose irritation along with a sense of sickness is another common sign your bathroom has mold.

Deep Cleaning Moldy Baseboards

First, you have to create an anti-mold solution by mixing some special ingredients together. Prepare the following in a spray bottle or a bucket.
- Two cups of warm water
- Half a cup of borax
- Half a cup of white vinegar
Take a microfiber cloth dipped in this solution and apply it to the affected baseboards. You can also spray it with a spray bottle. Once done, leave it for approximately 10 minutes. Finally, use a magic eraser and a brush to get the mold out of your baseboards.
