How To Remove Black Mold Around The Toilet Base
Mold forming around the toilet base indicates a leak problem that will most probably require the services of a professional plumber. What needs to be established, however, is the source of the leak.
First, if the leak is coming from underneath the tank or from the water inlet valve behind the toilet. If any of these are the sources, then follow the five steps below.
On the other hand, if the leak is coming from the actual base, then you will have to call a plumber who will remove the entire base and replace the toilet flange, wax ring and seal. It may sound like a big job, but for an experienced plumber, its relatively quick and easy. Your primary concern should be that the water around the base isnt clean water from the pipes instead, its contaminated sewage water. I would suggest you turn the water off at the inlet valve, flush the toilet and call a plumber. Do not turn the water back on or use the toilet again until someone has come to replace the wax ring and seal.
If you are fairly confident that neither the base, inlet valve, or tank is leaking, then it might be possible that the water is coming from a nearby washbasin or shower/bath. Perhaps water gets splashed regularly and lands around the toilet base, and no one dries the floor around it afterward. If this is the case, then follow steps 2 to 4 below.

Where To Look For Bathroom Mold
The main problem with bathroom mold is that it can appear almost anywhere from caulk to towels. Bathroom is perfect for mold growth due to a constant high level of humidity.
If you want to check your bathroom for signs of mold, then you should pay attention to these places:

- Towels and bathroom robes
- Shower curtains and mats
Of course, if you are not sure whether or not you have mold in your bathroom , you can always rely on professionals to do all the necessary checks. Verifying The Cause Of Mold On The Ceiling
There are two ways to prove the cause of the mold growth. If you have access to the attic area above the bathroom, simply pull back the insulation. If the backside of the sheetrock shows signs of mold growth youre definitely dealing with a roof leak. See example below.
If you dont have access to the attic, or simply dont like the idea of crawling through insulation, you can use a moisture meter. In the vast majority of cases, a moisture meter will not pick up moisture due to condensation. Therefore, if the meter indicates elevated water content, youre likely looking at a roof leak. Clearly, this needs to be performed after a recent rain event.

Just because a wooden surface has been painted doesnt mean its immune to mold. Interior doors, window frames, and baseboards can all get moldy. The good news is the paint can form a protective barrier that prevents mold from getting into the wood, making cleanup faster and easier.

Step 1: Use damp paper towels to wipe away the visible mold. A soft-bristled brush will help dislodge any stubborn parts.

I started with bleach because there seems to be a lot of debate over whether or not bleach actually works on cleaning up mold.
Some people believe that all it actually does is remove the color from the mold so it looks like it has been cleaned up when it actually hasnt. Others, including professional maids, swear by bleach as their go-to for cleaning mold.
To use bleach to clean up the mold, you will want to combine bleach and water in a spray bottle, in what is about a 50/50 concentration, or just a little more bleach than water.
Shake the bottle well before spraying it on the areas that have mold. Let it sit for 10 minutes before you apply a second spraying, this time rubbing it off with a coarse brush or old toothbrush.
You may need to repeat the process a few times to get all of the mold.

Mold loves wooden surfaces. Whether its your window sills, flooring, wall framing, or furniture, the high cellulose content of wood provides mold with lots of food. Because wood is also very absorbent, its easy to create a perfect environment for mold with very little moisture. If you do find mold growing on wood in your house, heres how to get rid of it.

Method:
Step 1: Begin by vacuuming up as much of the mold as possible using a vacuum with a HEPA filter. You can also use a soft-bristled brush to dislodge the mold and make this easier. Remember to wear a dust mask to prevent breathing in mold spores while you do this.
Step 2: Add a teaspoon of soap to two cups of water in a spray bottle. Shake to combine and spray the mold and surrounding surface.
Step 3: Use a soft-bristled brush to scrub away the mold and mildew. Use paper towels to soak up any excess water.
Step 4: To kill the roots, add 1 tablespoon of borax to a cup of water and use a soft-bristled brush to apply the solution to the area. Allow it to absorb into the wood.
Step 5: Run a fan or dehumidifier in the room to quickly dry the wood.
Step 6: If the mold is very stubborn, use 100-grit sandpaper to remove the affected area.
