Baking soda is a base and vinegar is an acid. When they are used together, they react to form carbon dioxide gas and heat. The chemicals then are neutralized and have less cleaning power than they would if they had been used separately.

In my case, it does not exhaust outside the home but rather into the attic which is why its so difficult to keep the humidity down.
In most cases mold is found in places like under the sink, behind the refrigerator, dirty air conditioner vents, and other crowded space with high moisture levels. The key is to make sure that areas where there is greater chances for increased levels of moisture get vented properly. The ventilation allows for the moisture to escape and leaves the space dry even where high levels of moisture exist.

Tackling The Underlying Cause Of Mold
Molds are all around us we breathe in their spores every day. Its impossible to prevent mold from entering any property, but steps can be taken to stop mold from finding a new home in your house. Without addressing the underlying cause of why mold is growing in a particular area, it will just keep coming back.
Molds only need two things, food and damp. Its impossible to remove the food mold needs from your home, because your property is made of it. Particle board, gypsum, wooden framing, and soft furnishings can all nourish and sustain large mold colonies. What you can control, however, is damp. When mold is discovered, look for the underlying source of water.
There are three common ways that water can cause problem mold growths:

Installing fans or vents, replacing portable heaters, or investing in a dehumidifier might be necessary to resolve the problem.
Wait For The Vinegar To Work
While you want the mold gone as soon as possible, you must wait after applying the vinegar. The minimum time is an hour, but two to three hours work better. During this time, you may want to leave the ventilation system on or open a window as the vinegar smell may be overpowering.
This waiting period allows the anti-fungal and anti-bacterial properties in the vinegar to work. The acid in vinegar also affects the mold on your bathroom ceiling. It creates a hostile local environment for the mold, including any mold that you cannot see.
If you dont have an exhaust fan in the bathroom, its likely the cause of the mold itself. Make sure you install a correctly sized, quiet exhaust fan that exhausts to the outside.
An exhaust fan removes the excess moisture from the bathroom and makes it impossible for mold to come back.

How To Clean Mold Off Bathroom Walls
Similar to cleaning mold from bathroom ceilings, you can clean mold off walls with soap and water or vinegar in a spray bottle. If you have scrubbable painted walls, you can apply the vinegar directly to the mold and scrub it away. Allow the area to dry, then cover it with a stain-blocking paint. If the mold has infiltrated the drywall or spread across the entire wall, it will be difficult to remove it yourself. Hire a professional to remove the mold instead. Disturbing that much mold could pose a health hazard and cause it to spread to other areas of your home.
Removing Mold From Painted Or Wallpapered Walls
For mold on painted walls, try a natural remover like white vinegar, borax and water. Youll need a spray bottle and a few other items to scrub the walls.
- Combine two tablespoons of borax with 1/4 cup white vinegar and two cups of hot water in a bowl.
- Pour into a spray bottle
- Liberally apply on painted walls.
- Scrub thoroughly and wipe clean, then spray again and let sit for 10 minutes before wiping dry.

Baking Soda And Borax For Killing Mold
For stubborn stains, mix two parts Baking Soda with one part vinegar and one part water. Spread the thick mixture on a moldy area and let it dry.
Gently scrub the mixture, rinse, or wipe clean and repeat if necessary. This method works well on ceilings, where a liquid may drip off onto the floor or into your eyes.
Borax is also another powder-form chemical that can get rid of mold.
Mix one part borax to 16 parts water, or one cup to a gallon of water for spray applications.
Use a thicker mixture on surfaces where you dont want to use much water, such as drywall or hard-to-dry fabrics.
How To Kill Mold Spores
To kill mold spores, bleach will be used.
- Mix together a quarter cup of bleach with a quart of water.
- With a spray bottle, apply the solution to the affected area.
- If you do not have a spray bottle, a sponge can work here as well.
- Wait for 20 minutes and apply the solution a second time.
- Finally, Allow the area to dry for another 20-30 minutes.
When using bleach, its recommended to wear a shirt and shorts that you dont mind getting dirty. We recommend choosing old clothes that youre not worried about a bleach stain getting on your clothes.
Bleach can be very irritating to work with, so dont forget to open a window for airflow.
Make sure to put on all protective gear, including gloves, face masks, and goggles, for eye protection, as earlier said.
If you dont have any bleach available, another all-natural solution is to use vinegar. Vinegar can be found at your local supermarket and is just as effective on mold as bleach.
We recommend that vinegar is your best, cheapest option if you dont have bleach readily available.
If youre unable to find bleach around, vinegar may also be used to substitute for bleach.
Like how you applied the bleach to the mold on the bathroom ceiling, use the vinegar in the same manner. Once it is applied to the mold spots, let it sit for 30-60 minutes.
