    • Hydrogen peroxide: Grab a spray bottle and pour 3% solution of hydrogen peroxide into the bottle. Spray the affected area, let it sit for 10 minutes, and then scrub the mold away.
    • Vinegar: Pour undiluted vinegar into a spray bottle and spray the moldy area. Let it sit for an hour and then wipe the area clean with water and allow it to dry.

    Checking Other Spots For Mold

Did you or a pro find mold behind baseboards? If so, there is a high chance that mold will be found in another area of the building. This is because airborne mold spores spread and grow dark, humid, moist areas. It is referred to as a snowball effect as its only a matter of time before it expands. A mold testing kit may find other areas, but the best approach is a professional inspection.

Does Vinegar Kill White Mold On Wood

Vinegar can be a quite good solution for white mold if used properly. Since its a mild acid, it can kill a large percentage of mold species experts estimate around 82%.

Wiping surfaces down with vinegar can even prevent future mold outbreaks on wood, though other factors like humidity and temperature can largely affect that.

To kill white mold on wood with vinegar, cover the affected area with vinegar and let it sit there for about 60 minutes before trying to scrub or wipe it.

Depending on the amount of mold present and the severity of the growth, you may need to wait longer or re-apply the vinegar.

According to the Environmental Protection Agency , There is no practical way to eliminate all mold and mold spores in the indoor environment the way to control indoor mold growth is to control moisture. White Mold On Wood Paneling

If you live in a quite warm climate or have recently moved into a property that stood vacant for some time, you may encounter white mold on your wood paneling.

Previous incomplete removal of white mold may also cause some growth to re-emerge on your wood paneling.

While the mold probably wont cause too much physical damage since its just paneling, it can cause unsightly cosmetic damage that would require covering or replacing.

It can also cause a very unpleasant, musty smell to permeate your whole home.

So, how should you tackle it?

    • Either vinegar or baking soda should work just fine, though we would recommend baking soda over vinegar since its a bit milder some wood paneling can be a bit too delicate to use strong chemicals on it.
    • After spraying down and scrubbing the affected area, make sure to thoroughly dry it, as any remaining moisture may seep underneath the paneling and cause further damage or detach the paneling from the surface underneath it.
    • You may want to contact a professional if the affected area is quite large, or if youre worried about potentially damaging your wood paneling in the process of removing the white mold.

How can you prevent the white mold from returning?

    • Make sure the room where the infestation happened doesnt get too hot or humid invest in some dehumidifiers and keep the windows open as often as possible.
    • Also, as mentioned before, using baking soda properly should ensure that the white mold never resurfaces.

Yes, if you thoroughly remove the mold spores, there should be no danger in bringing the items into your home. After cleaning, you might see residual staining on the items. Staining is much more likely to occur with black mold vs. white mold. This is not active growth and poses no health threat.

If the items are non-porous, such as wood, plastic, etc. the cleaning should be fairly straightforward. Heavy scrubbing is not needed. Simply damp wipe the items with a cleaning agent. If the items are soft/porous, such as upholstered furniture, removing all the spores can be difficult. I would recommend a professional for the soft/porous items.

Mold growth on exposed soil in the crawl space is common. This is why its critical to completely cover the soil with 6mil poly sheeting. This will prevent any mold spores from entering the home. By most estimates, 35% of the air in the main portion of your home comes directly from the crawl space.

Is It Dangerous Mold Or Is It Mildew

Mold and mildew are definitely fungus cousins, but there are a few striking differences. Both are attracted to moist, warm areas where they might thrive and sprout their homes. They can also both grow on a vast array of surfaces, from the tile walls of your shower to the drywall in your basement, to ceiling tiles and paper products. And, of course, mold and mildew are both two types of fungi that no homeowner likes to see in their home. However, mold and mildew have striking differences when it comes to color, texture, and size.

Mildew is a surface fungus that can be easily recognized as a patch of gray fungus thats lying on the surface of a moist area, like in the bathroom and on fabrics and booked stored in damp basements or garages. If mildew isnt removed promptly, it can oftentimes turn black or brown and can sometimes look like soil accumulation. Mildew is usually easily removed and treated.

Mold, on the other hand, can be green or black and is often the result of a much larger infestation. This type of fungus can appear fuzzy or even slimy in nature. If you detect a strong, musty odor anywhere in your home, then its likely you have a high concentration of mold. It can come from places like a leak under the kitchen sink, carpets that have mold growing in the padding, a damp crawl space under your home, or even a neglected hamper filled with damp towels.
