How To Clean Bathtub Black Mold

How To Clean Mould Off Bathroom Sealant

How To Remove Black Mold From Your Bathroom Ceiling

For sealant, similar to grout, you may need to replace it entirely. If the mould is on or around your tiles, you should be able to scrub or brush it away with your cleaning solution, potentially bleach-based or borax for its strength.

Like removing grout, use a flat-headed screwdriver to lift it away and apply new sealant. Remember to clean the tiles, grout and sealant regularly.

When using bleach, remember that it is a toxic substance that can cause eye, lung and skin irritation. Take great care and make sure you have enough ventilation to remove fumes.

A handy trick is to roll a few pieces of toilet paper into a sausage shape, pour the bleach onto the affected sealant and let it soak in. Place the toilet paper on top, allowing it to absorb the bleach. Leave it for 12 hours and then remove it. You may need to repeat it. Watch the video below for an example.

Where Does Mold Grow In My Shower

  • Mold can grow in the grout. That is one of its favorite places.
  • It can grow inside the window frame if your window is IN the shower like mine is.
  • It can grow around the drain and on the drain plug.
  • Mold can grow on the shower caulking.
  • It can grow in the door tracks if you have doors.
  • Mold can grow under shampoo bottles, bars of soap, shaving cream bottles, etc
  • While not technically a part of the shower, mold can grow on a shower curtain.

Mold can also grow behind shower tiles and on the wall but this is due to a leak behind the shower and not from water in the shower typically. The exception is if your grout is old and cracking. Then water can seep behind the shower tiles allowing mold to grow.

Remove Black Mold On Bathroom Wall

If the infestation of black mold on the bathroom wall is no larger than 10 square feet, you can easily remove it by doing some simple steps below.

  • Dissolve some detergent in hot water.
  • After you get the solution, use it to wash the bathroom wall which has been infected by black mold. Wash it thoroughly until the mold layer is covered.
  • Wipe the wall with a clean rag. Make sure that the wall is completely dry before you move on to the next step.
  • Apply the fungicide as the next substance. Fungicide is useful to kill fungus and molds on the wall, and can prevent them to grow in the same place. Just like the solution of detergent and hot water, you also need to apply the fungicide thoroughly on the bathroom wall.
  • Wait for about 10-15 minutes after fungicide has completely covered the wall. That chemical substance will remove the mold from the surface to the construction of the wall.
  • Rinse the bathroom wall one more time and let it dry.
  • Please note that the above steps will only work for the small area of the infected wall that is less than 10 square feet.

If black mold infects bathroom wall in a larger area, it is better for you to call professional inspectors to remove the mold and help you get rid of this dangerous organism. They will use negative air pressure to destroy the mold.

Why Do I Have Mold In My Shower

    Our Home from Scratch

Its very common for mold to be found in the shower. There is lots of water and humidity in the bathroom which mold just adores.

Frequently running water in the shower creates wet surfaces and puddles of water. If you dont dry this moisture out quickly it can easily lead to mold growth.

On top of this, when the water in the bathroom does dry out it evaporates into the air and increases the humidity. Steam from the shower or a hot bath also makes the bathroom more humid. Since bathrooms are often not well ventilated the humidity tends to hang around and wet surfaces take a long time to dry out. Enter mold.

Another reason mold grows in theshower is because grime from body oils and soap scum which is washed off andonto the shower or tub create a food source for mold to feed on.

Basically, if mold were to have achoice vacation destination it would be the shower. Soooo inviting.

    Clean The Bathroom Floors

How to clean your bathroom floor depends on what material the floor consists of. If you have natural stone such as marble or granite, you can’t use acidic agents such as vinegar, or purchased bathroom cleaners. They corrode on the stone which gets stains that can’t be removed. For stone floors, oil soap works well because the soap both cleans and treats.

Wooden floors are not so common in bathrooms, but if you have an oiled or waxed wooden floor in the bathroom, oil soap is also recommended there. For most other floor materials, an all-purpose cleaner works well. Dose according to the packaging and don’t overdose as it can have the opposite effect where the floor becomes sticky and absorbs dirt instead of cleaning.

Ways To Remove Mold From Shower Grout

How to clean Bathtub Mold quickly & easily WITHOUT SCRUBBING!

Option 1: Use hydrogen peroxide and baking soda to clean the shower. Be sure to wear gloves and a protective mask so you dont breathe in the spores. Mix some baking soda with water to create a paste and apply to the affected area of pink or black mildew. Then spray some peroxide over the paste. Finally, scrub with a brush and rinse with water. Repeat if necessary.

Option 2: Use distilled white vinegar. This is a natural product and usually doesnt cause the grout to discolor or fall apart. Use a spray bottle to soak the mildew area with vinegar. Let it sit for about 30 minutes and then scrub if necessary. Rinse with warm water and wipe the shower dry.

Option 3: Use chlorine bleach. You will need to make sure the area is well ventilated and wear a mask when working with bleach. If you have colored grout, do not use this option. Using a spray bottle with 1 part bleach to 2 parts water, spray the black, orange or pink mildew. Let the bleach sit for at least 30 minutes and then carefully scrub with a brush. Rinse with water and pat dry.

Option 4: Use a commercial cleaner. There are many products on the market that will help clean fungus off your grout. They usually come in a spray bottle and require the solution to sit on the area for a specified amount of time. As with bleach, be sure to use protective gear when working with chemicals to clean black, pink, and orange mildew.

Bathroomsespecially shower stallsare a perfect breeding ground for mold. They are humid, often dark with poor air circulation, and there is food readily available from soap scum and body soil. What can begin as a tiny mold colony creeping along a grout seam can grow into a moldy ceiling.

Before you begin, it is important to determine what type of mold is growing on the bathroom ceiling. Molds are classified into three categories:

    • Allergenic molds can require removal by a professional, but most allergenic molds can be removed with home disinfecting products.
    • Pathogenic molds can be controlled with disinfectants but large colonies require professional removal.
    • Toxic molds are the most harmful and require a professional to kill the mold and dispose of any affected materials.

Once you have discovered and identified the mold, it must be removed. If the mold infestation is deemed to be toxic or covers 10 or more square feet, then a professional should handle the removal. Local public health departments can offer advice on mold testing and refer you to an expert mold remover.
