If the organism cant read the genetic code, it cant go on living.
Ultraviolet light does kill insects as well, and its commonly used in quarantine labs to keep potentially dangerous insects from escaping into the environment. Its also been investigated as a way to kill stored product pests without resorting to pesticides. This doesnt mean it would be a good idea for home use, because the lights are set up in such a way that scientists are only exposed for a few seconds at a time, but UV light does kill insects.

Its a safety hazard, and shouldnt be used in the homebut insects arent immune to the effects of UV light.
