Hydrogen peroxide, the combination of hydrogen and oxygen is effective in removing mould but does not actually kill it. Hydrogen peroxide comes in many different forms and different concentrations. You can find hydrogen peroxide in what is known as household peroxide which has a 3% hydrogen peroxide concentration, all the way up to industrial strength solutions which can contain 90% hydrogen peroxide.
When hydrogen peroxide is applied to mould, it releases oxygen at a rapid rate, causing the surface of the mould to oxidize and decompose. From an EPA perspective hydrogen peroxide is said to remove the mould but not necessarily kill it. What is visible will be removed but the underlying cause may not be treated.

For our purposes, vinegar here refers to the type of white distilled vinegar you can typically get at the store.
So, how can you go about cleaning up mold with your Friendly Neighborhood Bottle of Vinegar?
To begin with, youll want to pour a certain amount of vinegar into a spray bottle. My Experiences Using Hydrogenperoxide For Molds And Algae
Im planning to write other pages about mold, and how to use hydrogen peroxide for molds. For example, how to clean walls and windows that have mold, using hydrogen peroxide to clean molds in carpets and clothing. Also some different kinds of mold, and how to prevent them.
But, first, I want to write about my own experiences killing mold and algae with hydrogen peroxide. It seems a good starting point.
I’ve only had a very few occasions to use hydrogen peroxide for molds, yet I think my few experiences are instructive and useful. Ive been using hydrogen peroxide for quite a few years, I just havent had much in the way of mold problems to try it out on.. .. which I think is good!
What Kills Mold Instantly
In such cases, a solution of diluted bleach provides the fastest way to kill mold on walls or flooring. Prepare the solution by adding one cup of bleach into a bucket that contains about a gallon of warm water. Then proceed to scrub the mold vigorously with a stiff-bristled brush youve dipped in the bleach solution.

Cleaning Black Mold With Detergent And Water
You are able to use a solution of detergent and water to clean off surface mold from non-porous material such as glass and tiles. Detergent is not a mold killer, the solution is meant for scrubbing off the visible mold from the surfaces. When mold grows on non-porous material, its good enough to have all the surface molds cleaned thoroughly. Its not necessary to kill the mold. For cleaning black mold off outdoor cushions, mix a gallon of water and 1/4 cup of soap in the bucket. You can stir the mix around with your hand and the sponge.
The mixture should be slightly sudsy. Scrub the cushions with the sponge. You can scrub as tough as you like until you get the mold and mildew stains off. The detergent should kill the mold and mildew while its breaking down the stains. Dowse any remaining stains with lemon juice. You may still have some pale stains remaining on the cushions once you have finished cleaning them. These should be saturated with lemon juice. Let the cushions dry in the sun. The lemon juice will lift the remainder of the stain out from the cushion using the sunlight as a catalyst.
How Do You Use Hydrogen Peroxide To Removemold
- To remove mold, pour 3% concentration hydrogen peroxide into a glass spray bottle. This is the peroxide I use.
- Spray the moldy surface completely so that the moldy areas are saturated with hydrogen peroxide.
- Leave the surface to sit for 10 15 minutes while the hydrogen peroxide kills the mold. You want to wait until the peroxide has completely stopped bubbling and then give it an additional 5-10 minutes.
- Scrub the area to make sure to remove all the mold and mold stains.
- Wipe the surface down to remove residual mold and spores.

Getting Rid Of Mold With Baking Soda
From absorbing odors in the fridge to relieving heartburn, baking soda has a multitude of uses around the house including black mold removal. Its safe for your family and pets, and it not only kills black mold, it absorbs moisture that attracts mold.
Add one-quarter of a tablespoon of baking soda to a spray bottle of water and shake until it has dissolved. Spray the moldy area with the baking soda and water solution, then use a scrub brush to remove mold from the surface. Next, rinse the surface with water to remove any residue and baking soda. Finally, spray the area again and let the surface dry without wiping. This will kill any left-over mold and help prevent the mold from returning.
For really tough black mold removal, mix two parts baking soda with one part white vinegar and one part water. Stir the mixture until it becomes a thick paste. Spread your mixture liberally onto the surface and let it dry. Scrub away the black mold and stains, and wipe down with water.
Is Hydrogen Peroxide Mould Kryptonite
No. While hydrogen peroxide certainly can remove mould it will not kill it nor kill the harmful mycotoxins that often reside within it. There are better alternatives that will deliver better results in the medium to long-term. Any treatment program should aim to prevent the mould from returning as much as removing it from sight.

Cleaning Black Mold With Ammonia
Make an ammonia solution using a ratio of 1 part of ammonia to 1 part of water. Fill a spray bottle with ammonia solution and spray it onto the moldy surfaces. Leave the solution to sit for a number of hours before rinsing with water. After rinsing or wiping with water, allow the areas to dry completely. For vinyl seats like in your boat, combine 1/4 cup of ammonia with 1 cup of water, and pour this solution into a spray bottle. Spray the mold with this mixture, and scrub it with a bristle brush. Rinse the solution off with clean water to remove it from the vinyl seats. If you still notice mold on the seats, use rubbing alcohol.
NOTE Ammonia, similar to bleach kills mold growing on non-porous materials like bathtubs, tiles, countertops, and glass. However ammonia is not an effective killer for mold growing in porous materials like drywall and woods. Ammonia is a harsh chemical, it emits toxic fumes when mixed with bleach. Use ammonia with care.
