Pro Tip: Clean Or Replace Your Air Filter

How To Remove Embeded Mold From Car Paint

Out of sight, out of mind. Pollen filters are often overlooked. However, protecting yourself and your passengers from allergies will require giving your cars filters some attention.

Replacing or cleaning them should be a straightforward process. However, every model is different, so take a look at your owners manual or ask a mechanic. We recommend changing the pollen filters at least once every two years. However, if you live in an area with especially high pollen levels, switching them out every spring is a safe bet. For most cars, the whole procedure to change filters should take less than ten minutes.

Use A Power Wash On The Exterior

This will aid you in removing as much mold on the surface as conceivable, and no, a standard garden hose hardly has sufficient water strength to do the trick. So, its not an option.

If you dont have a power washer or there is none available near you, you can go to your local car wash. Self-service clean bays often have high-powered water hoses like the one youll need.

Start by scouring the top of the automobile.

This will enable you to deduce much coercion to wield when you do the mold removal. Its also an excellent suggestion to commence at the very head, as mold will trickle back down to the rear. From there, you can change positions to the hood, trunk, and side cabinets of the car.

Use A Microfiber Mitt On The Paint

All the methods weve tried so far havent used any real agitation of the algae. This step involves aggravating the algae and mould so it will be effectively removed from the paintwork.

To do this, you should use a microfiber wash mitt and a car shampoo.

I recommend these products because they are safe to use on the paintwork.

I strongly advise again using a brush or sponge, because they are very likely to cause scratches in the paintwork, and this really isnt necessary to remove algae. Check out these two articles if you want to find out more.

Microfiber wash mitts are far safer and gentler, but also very effective at removing dirt and stubborn contaminants like algae.

Heres my favourite wash mitt, the which you can pick up for a very good price.

Heres how to use it.

  • Make sure the affected area is wet.
  • Lather up the microfiber wash mitt in car shampoo.
  • Gently wipe the area.
  • Keep checking and rinsing to see if the algae has been removed.

There is no need to scrub at the paintwork. This will risk causing scratches and isnt necessary because algae is quite easily removed by microfiber.

Its important to keep rinsing the area so you can assess the situation. You dont want to keep using the microfiber mitt unnecessarily and rub the dirt and algae back into the paintwork.

Let Your Car Air Out To Reduce Mold Growth

One of the best ways to reduce the amount of mold in your car is to prevent it from generating in the first place. If youve already treated your car for mold growth, or are worried it might begin to show signs of mildew, airing your car out is a great way to prevent mold spores from flourishing.

While letting your car air out may seem like a solution too simple to work, its a great way to improve air circulation. Proper ventilation is critical to preventing mold from growing in the first place and is as easy as letting the fresh air flow in through the windows or the sunroof now and then.

Another great way to improve air circulation and lower high humidity levels in your car is by using a dehumidifier. These dehumidifiers reduce the amount of condensation in vehicles, especially as the result of shifting temperatures.

Think of all those times you started up your car in the morning, only to be met with impossibly foggy windows. A dehumidifier helps with that problem, while also regulating moisture levels inside the vehicle.

How To Clean Pollen Off Your Car: A Basic Wash

A simple two-bucket car wash will do the job here. The two-bucket method is the industry-standard technique for a thorough, safe clean, ensuring that your ride gets spotlessly clean and that your beautiful paintwork is kept scratch-free. If youve noticed some pollen build-up on your rides exterior, dont waste any time in giving it a proper clean.

    What youll need:

    • The Decon Wash Pack : A quality car shampoo is essential. We designed our five-star rated Decon Soap + Wash Mitt to be kind on your paint but aggressive on dirt. Its guaranteed to make light work of every last grain of pollen on your bodywork.
    • Microfiber Towels: Microfiber is the only way to go! Two or three should be enough.

    How To Avoid A Mold

Having a car infested with molds can be so disgusting. The very noticeable manifestation of it is the unpleasant smell it gives inside the car, especially the very first time the car is opened on a certain day.

To avoid experiencing this, here are a few reminders for you to take note:

    • Wipe wet or watery substances right away

When you notice a wetted seat or floor, or worse comes to worst, a big spill in the car, wipe it immediately. Do not wait for it to dry itself. It is the common reason for a mold-infested car.

    • Do not leave your car windows open

An open car window can be an entry for water or moisture. This can leave the car with wet sections and be mold-infested soon.

    • Practice car disinfection from time to time

Since molds are fungi, it is best to disinfect your car interior when the need arises. A well-cleaned and disinfected car will give molds a lesser chance to thrive.

    • Refrain from eating inside the car

As much as possible, do not use your car as your dining place. Unless you have time constraints and eating out may take you a longer time, this can be a consideration. But, if you make it a habit, this can be a source for mold makeup.

Cleaning Mold From Car Window Seals

If you have ever dealt with mold in your house, you know that getting rid of mold is relatively easy. You just have to eliminate the source of the moisture.

However, its not the same with mold in cars. The thing is, in your house, you can use something strong like white vinegar. You cant use vinegar on your car though.

The rubber seals wont get damaged regardless of the cleaning solution you are using. The window rubbers are too close to the paint job though. And theres no way to avoid getting the solution on the paint.

Thats why we are going to be using something mild and safe for car paint, dish soap. The average liquid dish soap you have at home can be effective at getting rid of mold growth.

  • Mix dish soap with hot water. There are is no right ratio for the mixture, so just freeball this. Dish soap shouldnt damage your paint even if the mixture you make is strong. Also, I prefer mixing in a clean water bucket, so you can soak the toothbrush and the rag. You can put the mixture in a spray bottle though. That way, you just spray the seals.
  • Get a clean rag and a toothbrush.I recommend using a wool rag, something rugged, so it can scrub the mold. This is effective but also not safe. If you are using a towel rag, be careful to not scrub the paint too. If you want to go for something safe, use a soft cloth or a microfiber towel. Use any old toothbrush you can find at home. A nylon brush or a paint brush can be quite effective too.
