One thing I want to mention about fighting mold and mildew naturally is that patience is required. Remember, you are not using harsh chemicals and so it is going to take a bit more patience and persistence, but the rewards of a healthier home and hardly any money spent makes it all worth it!
As a second note, by using any of our homemade cleaners like the All-Purpose, Heavy Duty, Glass/Stainless Steel Cleaner, etc. all of these contain ingredients that help prevent mold and mildew in the first place. But it still happens. We have a bathroom that has no ventilation and so because of that, mold and mildew will be tempted to build and grow in this room. But between the cleaners and this mold and mildew remover, we can keep it at bay.
Theres only 3 ingredients needed:
- 1 TBSP Baking Soda
- 1 TBSP White Distilled Vinegar
- 5-6 drops of Tea Tree Essential Oil
Heres how to make it:
Put the 1 TBSP of baking soda in a small bowl. Then pour the 1 TBSP of vinegar into the baking soda. A small reaction will happen, just stir it up until mixed.
Then add your 5-6 drops of Tea Tree Essential Oil and mix again.

How To Kill Mold With Bleach: Steps & Alternatives
Mold and mildew are not just an eyesore, they can be hazardous to your health. Bleach is a common household item that will help remove mold on surfaces in the home. Bleach has many benefits for killing mold, but it also carries risks if not used properly or with caution.
Kill mold with bleach by mixing 1 cup of bleach with 1 gallon of water and spraying the mixture to the surface with mold. After an hour, scrub and rinse the surface before drying it up. Ensure the room has enough ventilation and you have put on protective gear such as a mask, goggles and gloves.
The bleach to water ratio for mold is 1:9 from the procedure above. Basically, the bleach concentration to kill mold is 10%. This concentration wont kill mold right away and is limited to nonporous surfaces like tiles.

What Is Black Mold
Mold is one of the most common living things on Earth. Molds love damp environments. They grow indoors and outdoors, including in places like showers, basements, and garages.
Black mold, also known as Stachybotrys chartarum or atra, is one type of mold that can be found in damp places inside buildings. It looks like black spots and splotches.
Black mold developed a reputation for being toxic after a string of eight infants became ill in Cleveland, Ohio, between January 1993 and December 1994. All of them had bleeding in the lungs, a condition called idiopathic pulmonary hemorrhage. One of those infants died.
Results from a Centers for Disease Control and Prevention investigation revealed these infants had been living in homes with severe water damage and increased levels of toxin-producing mold inside. This led many people to believe that the black mold was toxic and could kill people.
In the end, scientists concluded that they were unable to link black mold exposure to illness and death in the Cleveland infants.

You actually can get the same air sampling technology that the expensive mold inspectors have a literally a fraction of the cost.
A quick lesson on how mold air sampling works:
Air sampling for mold involves obtaining a negative air pump that captures usually 75 or 150 Liters of air inside a tiny cassette. The cassette is then put under a microscope where it is determined how much and what kind of mold is present in the air sample.
Cool, but how can you do it yourself?
There is a company out there that offers one of these pumps called MyMoldDetective at a very affordable rate. It does the exact same thing as the $1200 machine a mold inspection company may be using.
You dont need to be a genius or really even know what your doing to operate one of these machines.

Removing Mold From Household Appliances
Appliances like washers, refrigerators, and coffee makers that combine moisture, heat, or food to feed mold need frequent cleaning.
Clean washers by running a hot water cycle with chlorine bleach at least monthly. Inspect every nook and cranny of front-load washer door seals to be sure no mold is growing that can leave clothes smelling moldy.
Distilled white vinegar helps inhibit mold growth and does a great job cleaning refrigerators and coffee makers.
