Can I Use Vinegar To Clean Mold

The Dangers That You Should Know

How to clean bathroom mold using vinegar(Do it yourself)

Before you combine bleach and vinegar to kill mold, you should know that bleach is a powerful chemical that is dangerous if not used properly.

Most chemicals are highly concentrated and give off a strong aroma as a warning sign to not inhale or ingest it. Bleach is one of those chemicals. Thats because one of the main components found in bleach is chlorine, which is poisonous. While small amounts of this chemical are relatively harmless, large amounts in bleach can be incredibly toxic if used incorrectly.

Breathing in or ingesting these chemicals can be fatal, so proper safety precautions should be taken at all times so that these risks are minimized.

Vinegar is more natural and poses a lesser risk, but the combination of the two is equally as dangerous as bleach is alone.

A Final Word On Vinegar For Cleaning Mold

Does Vinegar Kill Mold?

No matter what you read on the Internet, it is unwise to use vinegar as an agent to kill mold. Some recommend even mixing bleach and vinegar for ultimate penetrating effect, but this, too, would be unwise, since the two react to form chlorine gas. If you watch this video, you can get an idea of just how much chlorine is produced:

That little inflating balloon here is the amount of chlorine you would get just mixing basic household vinegar and bleach. Breathing this in, it wouldnt take long to get lung irritation and other signs of exposure. Therefore, it is not advisable to mix bleach and vinegar.

In fact, as a general rule of thumb, avoid mixing bleach with any other cleaner, since its oxidation potential is high enough to create a lot of different nasty gases when combined with other cleaners.
