I had accidentally left a plastic cup with some juice in it, in my bedroom. I think it was pomegranate juice or some other unusual juice rather than grape juice, Im not sure. What were focusing on in this post is mold on your walls and ceilings that needs to be addressed through painting and drywall.
If youve found mold on your walls and its more than just surface mold when you find it, such as it goes into and behind the wall, then removing the drywall and replacing all affected areas is the best solution. You do not want to mask large mold issues with paint!
IMPORTANT NOTE: Bleach WILL NOT kill mold that is beyond the surface on the drywall. Mold loves porous surfaces like drywall. The problem with bleach is that it cannot penetrate all the pores in the drywall and kill all the mold. This is why mold will often return quickly to these areas.
If you have a significant mold issues on your walls or ceilings, you will always be better off cutting out and replacing the drywall in those areas.
If the mold is purely on the surface however, there are some simple ways to address the mold.
Paint The Area With Mold Resistant Paint

What Kilz actually kills are stains and stink.

Its hard to find a company willing to say they can kill mold because mold is everywhere. If you have moisture, and especially if its dark, you will have mold growth. And it does not die easily like James Bond. Well Anyway, here is the bototm line: you have to stay on it. Theres no easy way.
My best recommendationthis works for my moist basement is to use a de-humidifer year-round. Yes it eats electricity, but its only like a light bulb. You have to pay that cost and its worth it to stay mold free. Thats my opinion.

Mold In My Bathroom Is Spraying Bleach And Painting Over With Kilz Enough
I live in an apartment and I noticed what I believe to be mold growing on my bathroom ceiling. I have a daughter with asthma and I now know it’s the cause of her constant coughing since we moved here. The maintenance guys came in said they fixed the leak from upstairs, treated the wall/ceiling, painted over with Kilz, and stated nothing further was needed.
Am I wrong in feeling like this didn’t solve the issue? I went myself and bought a moisture tester at Lowes to monitor the leak from an overflowing toilet from upstairs. This was two weeks prior to seeing the mold, because they shrugged it off as no big deal. I’m seeing mixed answers here on what to clean with and I was told the black mold is the worst and can cause a lot of respiratory issues. The way I see it it’s in the drywall and if it’s black it’s been there awhile we’ve lived here for just at a month. To me they are not solving the issue only painting over it just to cover it. Help this single mom of 3 to know what’s best for her 3 kids, one with asthma that can’t stop coughing.

KILZ has a specialized product only for drywall named KILZ PVA DRYWALL PRIMER. It is fast, and it is a water-based primer. It helps give a smooth finish to drywall. But, KILZ also works great with oil-based primers and helps cover the dark patches of Mold and Mildew on the drywall.
Mold or Mildew on drywall can be cleaned using chemicals like borax or vinegar/baking soda solution. However, painting over mold or applying KILZ primer will not completely solve the problem.
It will avoid further Mold growth on the specific surface, but we cant say that it is the optimal solution for preventing mold growth. It might grow beneath the paint and eventually start cracking the drywall and worsening the case.
So, it is recommended to get rid of the Mold or Mildew that you can see on the drywall before using KILZ primer. If you live somewhere with high humidity or moisture, you need to remove the mold using DIY techniques. After removing the mold, you can use the KILZ primer and paint to finish the work.
It is best to use bleach or borax to kill the Mold or Mildew growing on drywall. But make sure not to overuse the chemical as bleach has a high PH level and may damage the drywall from inside.
In extreme situations, the only option may be to replace the drywall. The best way to prevent such situations in the future is to keep damp areas as dry as possible by using ventilation daily. This, along with keeping it clean, will help avoid these issues in the first place.
