How Do You Mold A Glass Slumping

Slumping glass into a mold is the most commonly used method. Glass is balanced on top of a mold and placed into the kiln, where gravity and heat sink the glass downwards in the mold shape. This method is best utilized with ceramic mold. Make sure there is a small hole at the bottom of your mold so that air can escape.

Cleaning Black Colored Mold

Don’t panic. Let me share the facts according to the Center for Disease Control & Prevention :

“At present there is no test that proves an association between Stachybotrys chartarum and particular health symptoms. Individuals with persistent symptoms should see their physician. However, if Stachybotrys chartarum or other molds are found in a building, prudent practice recommends that they be removed.”

Basically, any mold can make otherwise healthy people have hay fever like symptoms. People that already have immune system issues or breathing difficulties can experience increased symptoms. My rule of thumb is: if you see any kind of mold get busy and clen it up.

There are fairly simple, inexpensive and effective ways to get rid of all colors of mold for good, providing that it is found in the early stages.

Vacuum

Before you clean shower mold, you will want to clean your shower walls with a vacuum with a HEPA filter. This can help remove any loose mold rather than just moving it around your shower.

Baking Soda

Baking soda is an effective, gentle inexpensive cleanser. You can use baking soda to make your own shower cleaner. Use one cup of baking soda, one teaspoon of liquid soap, a few drops of essential oils, and enough water to make a paste. Spread the paste over the mold and allow to sit for a few minutes, then wipe away with hot water. Do not forget to clean mold from the shower door. This should remove most of the mold.

Bleach

For the mold that was not removed by the baking soda paste, you should try bleach. Make a solution of 1 part bleach to 2 parts water and put in a spray bottle. Spray directly onto the mold and allow to it to dry. Spray again and then use a scrub brush to remove the mold. Rinse with water. If there is still mold left, repeat the bleach process.

Bleach can be dangerous. Make sure to wear gloves and keep the bathroom ventilated to prevent inhaling toxic fumes.

Replace Caulk or Grout

If you cannot get rid of all of the mold, you may want to consider replacing the caulk or grout in your shower.

Vinegar

If you try the vinegar method along with the baking soda method, make sure to keep your bathroom well ventilated, as the mixture of the two results in the production of carbon dioxide, which can be toxic in large quantities.

Mold and mildew spores are all around us. Add some heat and humidity, and a colony of fungus will begin to grow on fabrics, shoes, walls, bathroom grout, and bare or painted wood.

The most common type of mold found in homes is mildew. Mildew is a surface mold that grows in warm, damp places like basements, laundry rooms, and shady porches. Mildew begins as a gray or white powdery colony and eventually turns black or brown. To test if the wood is covered with mildew or just dirt, dab the stain with a cotton swab dipped in household chlorine bleach. If the stain lightens or disappears after two or three minutes, it’s mildew. If not, it’s probably just dirt.

Mildew can discolor and slowly harm wood surfaces but there are much more dangerous molds that can damage the structure of your home. If a fuzzy or slimy black or green mold is visible and the drywall or wood underneath is soft or crumbles, there is irreversible rot and the damaged surfaces must be removed immediately.

What If Your Windows Are Made With Wood

The process above works well with aluminum and PVC windows. It also works with wooden sashes and frames that are made with treated wood and that have a proper sealant. If your windows are wood and have little to no finish, another approach is called for.

Having the windows sanded may be the only real solution. It gets rid of the layer where the mould has set up. Once thats done, wipe down the area to get rid of any residue. Apply a small amount of oxalic acid to effectively bleach the spot. Rub it in using an old toothbrush or a cotton swab. Rinse with water and see if the spot darkens again. If so, apply the acid rub again. Rinse a second time and then dry the area.

Make sure the spot is completely dry before you begin to restain the wood. Remember that a coat of varnish or some other sealant will prevent mould from seeping into the wood again.

The Shocking Discovery I Made With My Glass Storage Containers

Im not giving up my eco-friendly food boxes, but I am totally changing how I clean them.

Ive been an avid fan of ditching plastic food containers for quite some time. I much prefer storing leftovers and freezing meals ahead in glass storage containers. They reheat betterno pink stains from tomato sauceand they dont warp with use.

But earlier this summer, I have to tell you, something horrible happened.

There I was, standing in my kitchen waiting for my dinner to heat up. I was flipping the lid back and forth between my handsI use it as a coaster under the container so the heat doesnt leave a mark in the woodand I noticed little black specks between the lid and the rubber seal that secures the lid when its snapped closed.

I quickly flipped on my kitchen light, and my worst fears were revealedmold!

    Kimberly Holland

It seems while I wasnt paying attention, food particles, water, and whatever else inhabits my dish liquid were setting up a cozy home in the nooks and crannies of my containers. I pulled out the multitude of lids from my various containers, and sure enough, they all had little spots.

I shouldnt be surprised. The rubber band isnt secured to the lid. Its there to be a stopper, to keep air out and liquids in. Its a necessary component. I just hadnt thought about the high likelihood that mold and food particles could slip into the tiny gap.

    Removing Mold From Non

Effective Way To Tackle Down Black Mold On Wood ...

To remove mold from non-porous surfaces such as tile, tubs, sinks, glass, and metal, we recommend using a non-ammonia based cleaner or an antimicrobial mold remover such as Foster 40-80. Apply the mold remover to the moldy surface and scrub with a rag or brush. Clean the surrounding area, as well, since sometimes not all traces of mold are readily visible.

Wear protective gear when removing mold, including disposable gloves and an N-95 face mask . Tape sheets of plastic over air vents and close doors leading to other rooms to prevent the spread of mold throughout the home during the cleanup process. If youre working in a large room, mold removal experts recommend using large sheets of plastic to block off a small work area so that mold spores dont spread throughout the whole room during the cleanup process.

Mold sometimes grows inside heating and air conditioning ducts, which are typically made of metal which is non-porous. However, removing mold from heating and air conditioning ducts is much more complex than removing it from a bathtub or tile floor. The Environmental Protection Agency recommends calling in a professional if you have mold in your ductwork. A professional will know how to remove mold from heating and air conditioning ducts and have the equipment required to do the job right.

    Spray The Affected Area

Remember that empty spray bottle? Fill it with water thats at room temperature. Youll use it to saturate the area where the mould seems to be present. Theres a method to this apparent madness that you may have overlooked.

Spray the area thoroughly. That may seem odd since you know that mould thrives in moisture. That youre doing is to wet the mould so that the spores are less likely to spread. Be sure to spray the area around each spot as well.

Preventing Mold In The Window Frame

Window frames, like window sills, are typically either made of aluminum or wood and both types can develop mold. On aluminum frames, dust that is rich in organic matter can accumulate in the joint where the glass meets the frame. This joint can trap the condensation that exists near the windows, ensuring optimum conditions for the growth of mold.

On wood window frames, the moisture trapped near the joints of the wood and glass is enough to encourage the growth of mold. Damp wood is a very common food for mold. To prevent the growth of mold, make sure that the joint between the wood and glass is free of dust and moisture. Scheduling weekly cleaning of these parts of the window will help you stay ahead of it.
